The latest trend to watch out for on the catwalks, doesn’t just translate to your wardrobe, but also your makeup bag. Yes the time has come to update your makeup look, to see you through the winter, and this season its all about teaming a nude, matte face with a bold statement brow (a la Cara Delavigne) as seen on the catwalks. So how do we get the nude look, without actually going nude with the makeup (I can hear the sigh of relief girls, you still wear makeup, just less of it) so there is no need to get drastic, lets see how we get the understated look just right.
Remember, this look is not about having a flat base (i.e. lots of foundation and nothing else) You want to keep the skin looking light and fresh, with a healthy pink glow.
Firstly use a foundation which has a satin-matte finish, avoid any which are too shimmery or dewy.
Use a damson or plum like eyeshadow, which is soft and shimmery on the eyelids.
Skip the standard black kohl pencil, for a blush rose eyeshadow which is used to highlight under the eyelids to give soft definition.
Next you need to SKIP THE MASCARA! yes you heard me right (sorry) there is no easy way of telling you this, it is a daunting, but necessary part of the look, so be brave fair lash ladies. If you really can’t face the thought of going without the mascara (I don’t blame you) then try using one which isn’t black. This benefit badgal one is a plum shade, and will compliment the look perfectly.
The power of the brow…
So we know that the big brows are in, but how to do you get the DIY brows at home?
Try using a matte mid-brown eyeshadow powder which isn’t too dark for your skintone.
Then use an angled brush to fill in the brow hairs, which will create a natural defined look, without having an obvious pencil line, which eyebrow pencils can tend to do. Fix the hairs in place using brow wax, or vaseline will do as a cheap alternative. This benefit kit is versatile, as it has the brown and rose pink eyeshadow inside, so you have all you need in one place.
For the blush, you want to use a soft cream pinky/peach blush which will not look heavy on the skin.
For the lips, use a soft, matte nude/pink lipstick which is barely there on the lips. Buff this on with your fingers for a natural look.
Follow these steps, and you will be fresh as a daisy in no time, and bang on trend!
Here is a look at how I achieved the look…..
