Ok…. let me confirm from the get go, my little family are NOT the sporty type. We don’t revel in long hikes, we don’t all trundle up on our bikes and go for family rides nor do my husband and I have sporty hobbies. We are active of course but not in that ‘sporty’ way. At age 11, I was told that I would never been the athletic type. I was in the 2nd group (B team) at school for PE and with my curvy hips and large boobs things like long distance track or active type games requiring a less than attractive sports bra fitting at our local C&A, just didn’t fit well with my cool school cred. 7 Reasons to Stop Proving Yourself to Everyone Else You are GOOD enough, SMART enough, FINE enough, and STRONG enough. You don’t need other people to validate you; you are already VALUABLE. Sometimes we try to show the world we are flawless in hopes that we will be liked and accepted by everyone, but we can’t please everyone and we shouldn’t try. The beauty of us lies in our vulnerability, our complex emotions, and our authentic imperfections. When we embrace who we are and decide to be authentic, instead of who we think others want us to be, we open ourselves up to realationships, real happiness, and real success. There is no need to put on a mask. There is… Read More →
Negotiate in real life like Taylor Swift did with Apple Last week, Taylor Swift wrote an open letter to Apple and CEO Tim Cook in which she complained about the company’s decision not to pay artists during the three month free-trial period of Apple Music. By also threatening to withhold from them her hot new “1989” album, the new reigning Queen of Pop also gave a crash course in Negotiation 101. Many of us could use some help in that department. A new survey from staffing firm Robert Half revealed that although 89 percent of workers believe they deserve a raise, only 54 percent plan on asking their employer for one this year. In fact, the survey showed, many workers… Read More →
Taking a picture for me was all about capturing a funny moment, where I could look back at the memory and smile! I loved to take photographs of me and my beautiful family and friends. When social media was born, so was the need to seek perfect pictures. I must admit I love to use a filter on Instagram, but with access to airbrushing apps enabling us slim & retouch ourselves to perfection, have we taken it too far? I find myself picking faults at my appearance, I almost didn’t share a beautiful photo of me and my daughter, because I didn’t like the lines around my eyes when I smiled. When did we become so hard on ourselves? Have we really… Read More →
Paula Kerr-Jarrett interview by Joy Carter on Women, politics, motherhood and success Pt 2 I first met Paula Kerr-Jarrett at an event last year at the Jamaican High Commission, and you know when you meet someone who simply takes your breath away it was like that. In Part 1 we discussed the importance of motherhood and women’s roles in society, in part 2 we go deeper and look at some foundational life keys you need to have in place to help you… Read More →
