Competition Day – WPA Welsh Powerlifting Championships 2015

So incase you didn’t know already, I competed at my very first powerlifting competition on the weekend!! Saturday 26th July saw the WPA (Welsh Powerlifting Association) Welsh Championships take place in Pontardawe. The lead up to this competition has filled with disaster after disaster. Firstly I somehow managed to damage the soft tissue on the right side of my ribs which made lifting painful and excruciating if I used my belt. I also started to develop some severe digestive issues e..g being constipated for about 8 weeks (yes 8 WEEKS!!). Team this with bloating, stomach cramps and the start of excluding foods, this prep has not been easy! Despite all of that I kept pushing forward with training and dieting… Read More →

Lesson’s learned

Sending a big virtual hug to you all…… After a brief hello and I am back, I am sorry to say I disappeared again into the fog of motherhood. Combined with a few personal upheavals, this year certainly has been one of the most enjoyable, saddest, hardest and fulfilling years I have had. I have loved every second of it and it has been one learning curve after another So….I wanted to start again and say HELLOOOO, I am STILL surviving motherhood 2nd time around and its been a crazy old year! Actually, I shouldn’t really say surviving, I should say enjoying – loving – embracing – happily living. All those worries I had, all those doubts about myself and… Read More →

That time of the month

So last week was awesome. I hit a 100 kg squats for reps, deadlifts were feeling awesome and even my benching wasn’t as horrific as it normally is, thinks were looking good! So  this week I have to see how heavy I can lift on all three lifts, it didn’t go well!! What was I doing wrong? Why were my hips so freaking sore? Why did I want to go home and cry?! Was I having a nervous breakdown???? No!!! Turns out mother nature was at work and ruining my training by inflicting a period on me! I felt horrifically weak, everything seemed tedious and very emotional and I seemed to have ballooned into an exact replica of the little… Read More →

Battle of the binge!

You have one bite, then another and then before you know it you have demolished an entire cake, box of biscuits, tub of ice cream and six loaves of bread. That one bite escalated into a full blown marathon binge and now you feel disgusting! Distended stomach, ice cream sweats, tight waistband on those normally loose leggings……”why did I do it” you think to yourself. The guilt sets in, the self-loathing, hatred, feelings of disgust, shame and embarrassment. You hate yourself for not having the will power to resist temptation, if only you had only had that ONE bite! Immediate thoughts turn to how you can rectify this abysmal situation. You decide to eat less or nothing at all the following… Read More →

Negotiate like Taylor Swift!

Negotiate in real life like Taylor Swift did with Apple Last week, Taylor Swift wrote an open letter to Apple and CEO Tim Cook in which she complained about the company’s decision not to pay artists during the three month free-trial period of Apple Music. By also threatening to withhold from them her hot new “1989” album, the new reigning Queen of Pop also gave a crash course in Negotiation 101. Many of us could use some help in that department. A new survey from staffing firm Robert Half revealed that although 89 percent of workers believe they deserve a raise, only 54 percent plan on asking their employer for one this year. In fact, the survey showed, many workers… Read More →

I lap danced & he laughed!

Our love and sex expert Dr’s Pam Spurr tackles your dilemmas. Dear Dr. Pam, I’ve been going out with my boyfriend for a year and I wanted to surprise him. My local pub was offering lap-dancing classes so I took a class and practiced a routine. It was so much fun! Once I was feeling confident I decided to surprise him. I set the scene in my flat and put on my sexiest outfit. When he came over I turned down the lights and told him I had a show for him. I actually felt nervous but I was determined to do it. When I started he began to giggle. Then he couldn’t stop giggling. I ended up feeling a complete idiot. We had a big row and… Read More →

Picture Perfect!

Taking a picture for me was all about capturing a funny moment, where I could look back at the memory and smile! I loved to take photographs of me and my beautiful family and friends. When social media was born, so was the need to seek perfect pictures. I must admit I love to use a filter on Instagram, but with access to airbrushing apps enabling us slim & retouch ourselves to perfection, have we taken it too far? I find myself picking faults at my appearance, I almost didn’t share a beautiful photo of me and my daughter, because I didn’t like the lines around my eyes when I smiled. When did we become so hard on ourselves? Have we really… Read More →
