Last Minute Christmas Shopping

I have a confession. Every Christmas I vow that the following year I’ll become one of those ridiculously organised people who begin their Christmas gift shopping in September and then smugly tell you every November that they’re all done and just need wrapping paper. My reality however usually involves praying that some gifts get delivered on time and a manic last minute dash to central London. I’m not alone though. The 23rd and 24th of December are up there with some of the UK’s busiest shopping days, and it can be stressful. So here are some gift ideas for the ladies in your life. The Makeup Junkie   Most makeup lovers have been looking forward to getting their hands on… Read More →

Clarisonic Review! What is Sonic Cleansing?

“Clarisonic cleansing uses a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to gently, yet thoroughly remove significantly more makeup, dirt and sebum than cleansing with your hands alone.” In other words, think of it as an electronic toothbrush for your face. Whatever method you choose, cleansing is probably the most important part of your skincare regime. If your skin is well cleansed then the serums, oils and moisturisers you use will absorb and work better. After all what’s the point in spending your hard earned cash on pricey products that won’t work at their best because your skin isn’t as clean as it could be?     There are a few different Clarisonic models and I’d been… Read More →

Cosmetics could be linked to cancer!

Parabens Parabens are chemicals used as preservatives and are commonly found in many cosmetics, beauty and health care products including shampoos, moisturisers, toothpastes, deodorants and many others. Over the last few years people are getting concerned with the alleged links between Parabens and some cancers. Dr. Philippa Darbre was the first Scientist to make the link between cancer and Parabens. There have been several studies that indicate that Parabens may help spread or even cause certain cancers and some studies have also shown that cancerous tumors removed from the breast contained Parabens. However according to the FDA cosmetics that contain up to 25% levels of Parabens are safe to use, and most cosmetics will only ever have levels ranging between… Read More →

Seven Summer Makeup Tips

So if the weatherman’s right we should have another little heat wave before the summer is over. Here are a few tips to help keep your makeup from sliding off an hour after leaving the house! 1. Prime Prime Prime! Use a primer to help give your skin a nice base and keep your makeup on longer. If you’re oily try a mattifying primer like this Smashbox Photo Matte Anti Shine. If you’re one of those very lucky people with nearly perfect skin you could use a primer just to take away the shine and not use anything else as a base. There are also primers like those from Nars and Laura Mercier which have an SPF 30 for that… Read More →

Face Oils

For many women, especially those of us with oily/combination skin types, the thought of putting an oil on your face is absurd. You might be surprised to know that face oils are great for all skin types, and if you have oily skin then using oils might actually help balance your skin. There are many oils for all skin types available these days. A good oil is like giving your skin an external vitamin which leaves you glowing and balanced, with an even skin tone (and if it’s really good it can help slow down the aging process a little). From my own experience of combination skin, I look back at how for years I was almost brainwashed into only… Read More →

COLOR WOW

Color Wow is a new range by John Frieda and his team. It has taken several years to create, by the same team who originally brought you game changing products like Frizz Ease and Sheer Blonde. This range is meant to keep your dyed hair from fading by locking in the colour and helping you create glossy styles. I try many products on myself, clients and friends, and can be quite cynical as we all know the beauty industry is full of products which claim to do the impossible, and often fail. The hero product of the range is the Color Wow Root Cover Up. This product is simply amazing. When we colour our hair, there’s always that awkward time… Read More →
